I dug the document out of my massive desktop gaming folder, edited it some, and posted it on my blog. I think it fits the ideas/themes you're driving at hear if you want to check it out.

http://blogontheborderlands.blogspot.com/2011/03/from-prayerbook-retribution.htmlLord Starkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12579773588540473028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4353391426294254427.post-36177375239174520702011-03-09T14:33:36.625-05:002011-03-09T14:33:36.625-05:00The stories of St Patrick and his confrontation wi...The stories of St Patrick and his confrontation with the druids really are the same kind of thing - full of magic and miracles getting slung around.

@Lord Stark - I'm with you - next time two clerics face off, I'm busting out the The Good the Bad and The Ugly soundtrack that's on my iPod.

It's funny - the idea of dueling wizards has been around a long time, whereas clerical showdowns are right there in real world legendry.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18031181424520125213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4353391426294254427.post-25735251996227381002011-03-08T03:52:37.005-05:002011-03-08T03:52:37.005-05:00Also, I like the Old West spin you put on things h...Also, I like the Old West spin you put on things here. I can see two priests facing off against each other on some street in Greyhawk. The eye each other for a time, and both reach to their belts for the symbols of their respective faith; the cross (obviously) for the lawful priest, and a pentagram entwined by a serpent for the other one.

A druid sips a drink outside a nearby cafe, watching the spectacle. For m...Great post. Really gets the juices flowing.

For my own campaign, I've made it so that the traditional cleric must be of lawful alignment and belong to the Holy Church (pseudo-Christian). They face off against evil priests, a new class; these guys can only use harmful (reversed) versions of cleric spells, and make use of some magic-user spells as well. They cavort with demons and evil gods, and can use edged weapons. They are, in a sense, an anti-cleric in every way; their spells bring harm, they worship a pantheon of evil gods rather than the one true God, they spill blood in combat, and they offer human sacrifice.

I had considered simply using druids as the anti-cleric foil, but they are too closely tied to nature for what I wanted. Basically, the evil priest is likely a minion of all of those demon and devil lords in the MM, or some Lovecraftian horror from beyond time and space, and so on.

This also nicely completes the three sides of the alignment triangle; clerics are lawful, druids neutral, and priests chaotic.Lord Starkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12579773588540473028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4353391426294254427.post-4929647408138061962011-03-07T15:35:39.653-05:002011-03-07T15:35:39.653-05:00'Tis the season...
