When it comes to game systems, I'm looking for the rules to match the theme of the game being sold. When it comes to campaign settings/adventure modules, I'm looking for interesting ideas that I can mine for my own campaigns. I hadn't thought about that before but I suspect you're right. I think it might simply be that making up monsters is fun, but I do think you lose something in ignoring the old trusties.noismshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09933436762608669966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4353391426294254427.post-12173793501362872912014-04-27T19:30:48.023-04:002014-04-27T19:30:48.023-04:00Man, I had forgotten all about how insane Ed Dove ...Man, I had forgotten all about how insane Ed Dove was in the comments of that post.Jack Guignolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05226738666709754348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4353391426294254427.post-75039579878775229162014-04-27T14:14:43.947-04:002014-04-27T14:14:43.947-04:00Thanks for the heads up Mel, I read Jack's pla...Thanks for the heads up Mel, I read Jack's place but I'm sure I missed that follow on discussion and Geoff coming by in the comments. Absent that, I want a product that inspires. It may inspire in a way that has me consult it before every game or in a way that has me read it once and digest it and never open it again. I just need to give me cool ideas that make me want to run a game; the idea need not even be explicit in the book, the book just needs to have given me a jumpstart to thinking in a certain direction (though I am more appreciative of an idea explicit in the book).Treyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04647628467658839351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4353391426294254427.post-18101221882724899582014-04-27T11:54:26.617-04:002014-04-27T11:54:26.617-04:00I think what I look for most in the product, espec...I think what I look for most in the product, especially in Island of the Unknown case, is ideas. When I read it I didn't find much I could use, granted my playing style is probably largely different from the author, but I still felt it lacked. While I don't want every toenail described I would like enough meat on the bone that I can use it. While I can't explain it, Stonehell being sparse, did not seem like a problem, but a strength. When I would read through room descriptions I could think of all sorts of cool things to do. And it just comes down to, sometimes it works for some and not for others.Gothridge Manorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11371740532802642972noreply@blogger.com
